I was always told to focus on the income column. I was taught to get a job, work hard, and keep getting pay raises. Or if I worked on an hourly basis, I was taught I should put in more hours or increase my hourly rate. The focus was always on income, specifically ordinary earned income—increasing my salary, wages, or commission. As long as I put my focus and attention there, then I would be working hard for that income all my life. The lights came on when I realized that the key to financial well-being is not to focus on acquiring income but to instead focus on acquiring assets. When I made that connection, life became easier, both in my personal financial life and in our business – The Rich Dad Company. I focused on acquiring assets personally and also focused on the assets we were building within our company. I also began asking one important question: What new assets am I building today? It is simply a different way of looking at the world. The strategy to achieve infinite wealth, where the cash flow coming in is equal to or greater than your monthly expenses, is very simple: Stop focusing on income and start acquiring assets that give you cash flow. We can sum up each economic system in one line: Capitalism is based on human greed. Socialism is based on human need. Right? No. Wrong. So wrong, it’s exactly backwards. And I’ll prove it to you. Been on Amazon lately? Each of the thousands of products Amazon offers represents the work of people who believe they have something you want or need. If they’re right, they prosper. If they’re wrong, they don’t. That’s how the free market works. It encourages people to improve their lives by satisfying the needs of others. No one starts a business making a thing or providing a service for themselves. They start a business to make things or provide services for others. I speak from personal experience. When I was the CEO of the company that owns Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurant chains, we spent millions of dollars every year trying to determine what customers wanted. If our customers didn’t like something, we changed it—and fast, because if we didn’t, our competitors would (pun intended) eat us for lunch. The consumer—that’s you—has the ultimate power. In effect, you vote with every dollar you spend. In a socialist economy, the government has the ultimate power. It decides what you get from a limited supply it decides should exist. Instead of millions of people making millions of decisions about what they want, a few people—government elites—decide what people should have and how much they should pay for it. Not surprisingly, they always get it wrong. Have you ever noticed that late-stage socialist failures always run out of essential items like toilet paper? Of course, this isn’t a problem for those who have the right connections with the right people. Those chosen few get whatever they want. But everyone else is out of luck. Venezuela, once the richest country in South America, is the most recent example of socialism driving a prosperous country into an economic ditch. Maybe you think it’s an unfair example. I’m not sure why, but okay. We’ll ignore the fact that leftist activists celebrated it as a great socialist success—right up until it wasn’t. But what about Western European countries? Don't they have socialist economies? People seem pretty happy there. Why can’t we have what they have—free health care, free college, stronger unions? Good question. And the answer may surprise you. There are no socialist countries in Western Europe. Most are just as capitalist as the United States. The only difference—and it’s a big one—is that they offer more government benefits than the U.S. does. We can argue about the costs of these benefits and the point at which they reduce individual initiative, thus doing more harm than good. Scandinavians have been debating those questions for years. But only a free-market capitalist economy can produce the wealth necessary to sustain all of the supposedly “free stuff” Europeans enjoy. To get the “free stuff,” after all, you have to create enough wealth to generate enough tax revenue to pay for everything the government gives away. Without capitalism, you’re Venezuela. Arguing in favor of the resolution was Richard D. Wolff, an economist at the University of Massachusetts and the author, most recently, of Understanding Marxism. Taking the other side was former Barron's economics editor Gene Epstein, who is also the Soho Forum's co-founder and director. Reason's Nick Gillespie served as moderator. It was an Oxford-style debate, in which the audience votes on the resolution at the beginning and end of the event; the side that gains the most ground is victorious. It was a packed house, with about 450 people in attendance. The pre-debate vote found that 25 percent of the audience agreed that socialism was preferable to capitalism, 49.5 percent picked capitalism as the better system, and 25.5 percent were undecided. Despite a technical problem at the event itself, the Soho Forum was able to recover the final vote totals, which saw support for socialism drop by half a percentage point and support for capitalism increase to 71 percent. But ironically, the world you enriched thinks that you should be punished the most! That you should pay your “fair share” with their greedy “progressive” tax system. Not paying taxes is a puzzle. When you operate a business that is registered in the majority of modern countries like the US, you’re legally required to have your name on the business in one way or another. The key is getting your name off of the business, off of any paperwork, and to make sure that even if the US really wanted to with a warrant, they can never find out who actually owns the business. Shell companies are official companies that you can open and control, but it can’t be traced back to you. This way, you can open up a shell company, move your money through it, and since your name isn’t attached to the shell company, tax collectors won’t be able to charge you. The problem is that there is no way in hell the countries like the US would allow full-blown shell companies to be created. Tax Havens are usually small countries that don’t really have much going for them, so they offer an extremely enticing business environment to attract foreign businesses to work with them and collect fees. There are four main qualifiers that a country is a tax haven 1. The country has little or no taxes. 2. They have very convenient financial products and incentives 3. The financial activities of the country lack transparency And lastly, the country doesn’t cooperate with other countries to give away their clients' identities. Once you have a tax haven in mind, it’s time to start your shell company. You’re gonna choose a company in that tax haven that offers these financial services for sale. Now it’s time to put your tax haven to work. Our goal is to not pay taxes and move the money offshore into our Shell, so it can’t be taxed. Then, you have to eventually get the money back home. Enjoy 😊 THE MYTHS ABOUT MONEY Everyone wants to know how to be rich, but when it comes to wealthy people the media and Hollywood have a habit of depicting them as cruel, evil, corrupt, or backstabbing individuals. But the real question is whether you believe this stereotype. Most of what you think about money has been influenced by your upbringing and surroundings. If you grew up poor, then you’re more inclined to believe that your financial future will remain under such circumstances. Or perhaps you decided to make it your goal to generate as much wealth as possible so you will never grow up in those conditions again – either way, it’s important to note that we may have false beliefs about money which will not serve you well if your goal is to become rich. THE EQUATION TO WEALTH. In a capitalist society, you are paid in proportion to the perceived value that you have. This is very important to understand and can explain many reasons as for why people are paid differently. The cleaner is paid less than the accountant because the cleaner’s job is not difficult to learn, and they can easily be replaced. The accountant on the other hand has spent years studying numbers, and has saved their clients thousands on taxes. The market perceives the value of the accountant to be higher, and therefore the accountant makes substantially more money. And yet the problem with a job is that your income is time-bound. It requires your time to generate wealth, and only at an old age can you truly reap the rewards of the wealth that you’ve built – if you’ve built any at all. How then are there millionaires or billionaires at such young ages? What is it about people like Elon Musk, or Jeff Bezos that make their perceived value so high? The next part of this equation is as follows: if you want money, you must solve problems. All money runs from this basic premise. If it solves a problem (depending on what the problem is), money will be thrown at it. If it’s a million-dollar problem, then the solution will make you millions. If it’s a billion-dollar problem, then the solution will make you billions. Truth is: if you’ve been chasing money, then you’ve been doing it all wrong.
